BIRTH OF THE FERME LUNE DE MIEL (HONEYMOON FARM)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After attending a course on apiculture, Richard C\u00f4t\u00e9 decides to become a beekeeper. He erects 50 hives on his father\u2019s property and focuses on making two varieties of honey, producing it in an old cabin that had been part of a motel \u2013 no doubt the scene of many honeymoons and loving words! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A FULL-TIME OCCUPATION<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Ferme Lune de Miel starts to take up more of Richard C\u00f4t\u00e9\u2019s time, so he moves all of his equipment to Stoke where he converts a former stable into an apiary. The site was very accessible to the general public and within easy reach of Sherbrooke and that gave rise to an innovative idea \u2013 opening the farm to visitors and introducing them to the fascinating world of bees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1983<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

AGRITOURISM \u2013 THE BIRTH OF A NEW CONCEPT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Richard C\u00f4t\u00e9 and his spouse, Carole Hupp\u00e9, welcomes their very first visitors! In order to help guide the public to their site, the couple asks the Ministry of Transport if they can install road signs with pictorial symbols indicating the nature of the enterprise. Unfortunately, at that time, no such symbols for a honey producer existed! The problem is solved when a committee headed by Tourism Quebec creates the pictogram \u2013 Centre d\u2019Interpr\u00e9tation (Interpretation Centre) \u2013 a broad description that could apply to the Ferme Lune de Miel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1990<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

INVESTMENTS AND EXPANSION<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Ferme Lune de Miel now has 400 hives and a growing number of visitors. It becomes clear that the building has to be expanded. In response to increased demand, the footprint of the production area is tripled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1995<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

INSTALLATION OF A GIANT HIVE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After working for several years to establish their business, Richard C\u00f4t\u00e9 and Carole Hupp\u00e9 install a new attraction \u2013 the Giant Hive! This innovative move raises the profile of the Ferme Lune de Miel even further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1997<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Giant Hive is an immersive experience that proves to be very popular and results in the Lune de Miel winning the Tourism Innovation Award<\/em> at the province-wide Grand Prix du Tourisme <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MORE AGRITOURISM ATTRACTIONS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The building is again expanded, with a viewing room and a larger boutique. The farm now has more than 100 items themed around the universe of bees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AN INSPIRING PAINTING<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Roger Vuillemin, a friend and neighbour, creates a painting of the scenic countryside around the Ferme Lune de Miel \u2013 an inspiring image that appears on the website and on all the product labels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EDUCATING THE PUBLIC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To improve the \u201cvisitor experience\u201d, a passageway is turned into an educational space with an illuminated glass-fronted hive, magnifier and interpretive panels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
